Walk Forty Six

My first walk of the New Year started in the Conrhenny Plantation car park. From here I headed towards Laxey along the B12 taking the first left turn down past the Ballahennagh Gardens and up to Glen Roy. From here I headed along the Greenway to Slieau Lhoist and onwards to Slieau Meayl/the Mast. From here I followed the road to return to the Conrhenny car park.

This walk was about 5 1/2 miles and took about 1hr 50 mins. This walk is a great short ramble providing a beautiful backdrop to great cardio vascular workout.

Walk Forty Five

I started this walk at the Sulby Reservoir car park. This walk covered nearly 12 miles and took about 4 hours. From the car park I headed along the main path to Sharragh Vane and onwards to the road way which I followed past the Ballaugh Plantation and took the greenway towards Mount Karran. I continued along the greenway to Ballacuberagh Plantation, and onwards to the Sulby Claddagh. It was at this point I realised I had just rejoined a walk I had undertaken last week. Anyway, I continued up through Ohio Plantation and onwards until I joined the Millenium Way which I followed back to the roadway – and then down to the car park.

The walk was a great outing that I will have to re-do when the weather is better.

Walk Forty Four

Staring point for this walk was the Sulby Glen Stores opposite the Sulby Glen Hotel. I headed along the road to Ramsey taking the footpath right into the Sulby Claddagh. Once I had crossed the stream I headed left and took the greenway up through the Ohio Plantation and onward to the Slieau Managh Plantation. From here I headed over Slieau Mannagh to the Mountain box. Crossing the road to the Clagh Ouyr side I followed the road way around the Verrandah to the Bungalow on up Mullagh Ouyr. I then walked down to Windy Corner and up Slieau Lhoist. From here I walked towards the Mast and down to the Creg ny Baa. The walks along this stretch are great, however, on a wet, windy and rainy day such as this, it is still an invigorating hike. From the Creg ny Baa I headed towards Honeywell and followed the track to the Clypse Reservoir and onwards to Onchan.

The walk was about 14½ Miles and took nearly 5 hours.

Walk Forty Three

Starting at the car park on the Peel switchback, I headed up he greenway up and onward to Cronk y Voddy. Taking the road past Rhenass to Mullen Rhenass and onwards alongside Glion Gill Plantation to Lhargee Ruy.

I then followed the path down past the Eairy-vane to Braaid, and followed the Millennium Way to Baldwin. Following the public footpaths across to East Baldwyn to Balliargey and then along the road to Abbeylands. At the Abbeylands Church I turned left up to Ballacashin, and followed the greenway to the Creg ny Bayr.

Weather wise, this was one of the best walking days I have had in about 3 months. Scenic value was high with the walk itself taking about 4 1/2 hours and covering nearly 13 1/2 miles.

Walk Forty Two

This walk started on the west coast at the entrance to Glen Mooar. I went up through the glen and took the greenway left up to the car park and followed the roadway Bayr Garroo and onwards up to Sartfield taking the roadway down to Little London where I took the footpath through Glion Gill Plantation, down past Eairy Vane to Braaid and followed the road way back to the Strang. The walk was nearly 10 miles and took a little under 3 hours. Weather wise, very grey day, but the walk certainly compensated for that.

Walk Forty One

Walk forty one was another relatively easy ramble, taking nearly 3 hours and covering a little over 9 miles, this proved a real scenic treat. Starting point was the Glen Wyllin car park, Kirk Michael. From here I joined the old railway track and headed north towards Ballaugh. This is a stretch of track that I will have to follow from end to end, however, at Ballaugh I took the road to Ballaugh Plantation to the greenway which I followed around the plantation through Glen Dhoo towards Slieau Dhoo. Past the Slieau Curn Plantation I headed west to join the Barregarrow path into Kirk Michael rejoining the old railway track which I followed back to Glen Wyllin for my car journey home.

Walk Forty

Walk forty was actually a reversal of the same walk I undertook last week. A little under 5 miles, this walk took about an hour and a half, however, it offers quite a varied landscape for such a short haul. Parking on the Old Castletown road before the turning down to Port Grenaugh, I headed up to the little roadside cottage and turned left to the old Vicarage and Church. I followed this road to Aaragon Veg and joined the Raad ny Fooilan which I followed around Santon Gorge and on to Port Grenaugh. Taking the road up through Glen Grenaugh to re-join my car.

Walk Thirty Nine

Starting in Cornaa at the Crowcreen woodland car park, walk down the hill to the bottom and take the footpath (shown on the map as a road) left and up to the narrow road at the top and turn left uphill towards the A15. Cross over the tram tracks and follow the road towards Ballajora. At the crossroad (which re-joins the A15) turn left along the Bayr Dreeyn Skerry past the old quarry towards Ramsey. When you reach the Venture Centre turn right and follow the road down towards Port e Vullen. At the end of this road you again join the A15 which you follow right towards Maughold until you reach the Maughold Broogh. Follow the Raad ny Fooilan to Maughold Head and walk around the headland towards the Maughold Lighthouse. From here the views across the coastline and over the Irish Sea are spectactular, made all the better by a beautiful clear sunny day which made everything gleam. I then continued along the Raad ny Fooilan to Port Mooar and back onto the A15. I followed this left to return to Crowcreen.
This walk was a little under 9 ½ miles and took 3hours. Weather wise it was one of the best days I think we have had this summer. Wonderful scenic easy walk, that would make a great ramble any time of the year.

Walk Thirty Eight

Today’s walk started in St Johns car park. Weather wise it was a little damp and overcast. The walk was a little over 8½ miles and took about 2½ hours. From St Johns car park, I followed the road way left around Slieau Whallian and took the public footpath to Ballamoore Lower Foxdale. I then followed the footpathacross country towards Glen Dhoo and rejoined the road which I followed right to the T junction/ford. I then headed left towards Rheast Buigh. At the T junction I turned right to the Garey and onto the footpath leading down to Barnell Lane. At the A30, I then headed right past Ballaquayle and took the footpath left towards Ballawillyn Farm re-joining the Heritage Trail which I followed towards St Johns.

Walk Thirty Seven

Walk thirty seven started in Kirk Michael. This walk was a little under 17 miles and took about 5 1/2 Hours. Weather wise it was not the best, bracing may be one word to describe it. From Kirk Michael I planned to head over the hills to Onchan. I started up the Baltic Road, to the greenway.

From Druidale I headed over… to Beinn-y-Phott and onto Brandwell. I crossed the road and went up Slieau Hoist and down to the greenway that lead into Glen Roy. I headed along to Social Cottage and took the footpath to Ballacoar, Shonest and along Barroose to the Liverpool Arms.

I then headed along the Groudle road and through Molly Quirks Glen into Onchan.

If it hadn’t been another wet weekend, this would have been a really great walk. Overall, quite demanding, but I suspect that was more to do with the constand rain and headwind, than the route itself.
