Walk Thirty Five

August 7, 2011

Walk thirty five started in Agneash above the Laxey Wheel. The weather was over cast and drizzling, however, the sun did make an appearance occasionally. The walk was supposed to be around 8 miles but due to changes en-route it extended to about 14 miles and took nearly 5 hours. The walk out of Agneash Village towards Snaefell along the Greenway was very pretty and easy going, however, when I arrived at The Tower and took the right path up towards Clagh Ouyr it became quite a demanding ascent. At the top I followed the path towards North Barrule and cut right down towards Park Lewellyn. This was the start of my misdirection. I intersected the greenway which I followed towards Margher-e-Kew, however, I could not find the turning Right down to the Cornaa River. Because this is not open ramblage, I decided to follow the path to Margher-e-Kew, take the road back towards the Glen Mona Hotel and follow the pathway back up to Slieu Ruy.

From the top of Slieu Ruy I headed downhill to join the greenway. Unfortunately, I joined this pathway too far to the right missing my planned exit route to Agneash – instead heading towards Snaefell. When I realised that I was off course I headed across land to Agneash. The terrain was not straight forward ranging from muddy bogs – which were difficult to get out of, to sharp drops into thick gorse.

I managed to navigate a path around and through this but it did feel in parts as if I may not get home – ever!.

However, I managed to find a way through and was very pleased to arrive back at my car in Agneash.

Overall a really great work out, however, the terrain was particularly difficult to navigate in parts and I would suggest starting early morning rather than the afternoon as I did.
